The 20th Spring Conference is coming up in two months. We’ve accepted a lot of application for the presentation and planned different events to make this first conference in Tohoku a special one. We are excited to have you at the conference. Here are some updates regarding the conference.
1. Conference schedule and venues
☆Pre-Event
o Date: 14 June, 2019 Friday 14:30-17:00
o Venue: Rikuzentakata Community hall (Singapore Hall)
o Contents: 1.Business Contest by Local High School students (By the local Takata high school students)
2. Symposium “Discovering the Cities from around the World ” (Panelists will introduce the cities of Yemen, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, Afghanistan) We are very sorry. As this event will open to the public, it will be conducted in Japanese. ★Spring Conference

o Venue: Capital Hotel 1000 (There will be a free shuttle bus service from Rikuzentakata Global Campus to the venue)
☆Excursion (Study Tour)
o Date: 16 June, 2019 Sunday 9:00-13:00
o Venue: Rikuzentakata (We will have pick up service at the main hotels, or you can come to Abasse Takata at 9am. The tour will end at 1pm at JR Ichinoseki Station ). There will also be a translation service.

2.2 The Submission of the Presentation
If your presentation has been accepted (Oral presentation, Poster presentation, Thematic session, Round-table session), please follow the specific format of the report attached in the acceptance email we’ve sent and please submit it by 21 April, Sunday. (The submission will be optional for Round-table session.)

2.3 Participation registration for the conference
Since there is no local college in Rikuzentakata, the registration process will be very different from the past conferences. Please read the following instruction carefully.
-STEP 1: Register for the conference by n Rikuzentakata, please make sure to refer to the following details to book your accommodation first. You cannot go to STEP 2 before booking your accommodation.
-STEP2: Register for the conference by 6 May, Monday. (It is mandatory for all the participants to register for the conference beforehand.)
-STEP 3: Please make the payment(*) through bank transfer by 31 May, Friday. *Fees: participation fee, social gathering fee, and shuttle service fee (Only for those who will take the shuttle bus organized by the committee on 15 June, Saturday at 7:40 from Ichinoseki Station to Rikuzentakata Global Campus)

■STEP 1: Accommodation Arrangement
Rikuzentakata is still recovering from the disaster, and there is no big hotels. Please refer to the following information and book your accommodation as soon as possible. These places will prioritize the conference participants, so please make a reservation on the phone instead of on website. Especially for the presenters, chairpersons and debaters, please book it as soon as possible.
JASID will arrange shuttle service from the following hotels to the conference venue. Please refer to this link for the access to each hotel.
Much of the information is available only in Japanese. Please ask your supervisor or a friend for assistance if you cannot communicate in Japanese. If you have no one to rely on, you can contact the secretariat for assistance at: rikutaka20@gmail.com
(40 rooms. Since all the rooms are twin types, we recommend to use the rooms as twin-type, but you could also use them as single-type as well.)
The conference committee has reserved all the rooms, so when you book rooms on the phone, please mention that you’re the participant of the conference. The dinner reception will be held at this hotel as well.
2. I-room monthly hotel
- I-room Rikuzentakata (within a 2km radius from the conference venue)
- I-room Bonmax Takata (within a 5km radius from the conference venue)
For these two hotels, the conference committee has not reserved rooms, so please book individually as a general guest. Since the number of rooms available online is limited, we are advised to book rooms on the phone. Please let them know on the phone if you also need breakfast.
3. Hotel Sanyo
This hotel is also relatively close to the conference venue, and single rooms are available as well.
The rooms are mainly Japanese style. It is within 15min walking distance from the conference venue.
Other than these hotels, there is also Ofunato Onsen (mainly Japanese-style rooms, 15min drive from the conference venue). The conference committee does not provide shuttle service from this hotel, but if there will be enough people, the hotel would provide free shuttle service to the conference venue.
If you are coming by car, we recommend you to stay in Ofunato or Kesennuma, but please note that the parking space at the conference venue is limited.
For those who are planning to arrive in Rikuzentakata on 14 June, Friday, home stay is available as an option as well. This is only available on the night of 14th, but it would be a great opportunity to interact with the local people. Please check and apply from the site if you’re interested in home stay program.
■STEP 2: Pre-registration to attend the conference (Required for all the participants!!)
Since we need to arrange the shuttle service from the conference venue to the hotels mentioned above and the social gathering place, please make sure to register to participate the conference beforehand. (It is possible to come participate without pre-registration, but in that case, please note that you would not be able to use the shuttle service)

Since we want to make the conference open to the local people and non JASID members, if you’re a teacher taking non-JASID member students for educational purpose, please contact the conference committee directly.
■STEP 3: Fee Payment in Advance
Please refer to the following table and make a payment through bank transfer by 31 May, Friday. Please not that we do not accept payment after 1 June, Saturday and the fees are not refundable.
*For those who need on 15 June, Friday, the committee only provides one-way shuttle service from Ichinoseki to Rikuzentakata Global Campus at 7:40.
*On your way back, please use the public transportation. If you are participating in the excursion (study tour) on 16 Sunday, you could ask the tour bus driver to take you to Ichinoseki Station.

2.4. Day-care service
We are planning to provide day-care service with the cooperation of Rikuzentakata city. Please indicate your children’s details on the registration form.
3. Pre-event
-We will hold a pre-event on 14 June, Friday. -The first part is “Business Contest” where the local high school students from Rikuzentakata will present their business ideas, and exchange opinions with JASID experts from different backgrounds. We will invite Mr. Akira Iwabuchi, the president of Iwate university as the chairperson and have an exciting discussion about the future of global×local×development with the high school students.
-The second part is the Symposium “Discovering the Cities from around the World ” where we will invite JASID members who have been doing research all around the world to introduce Yemen, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, Afghanistan.
4. Excursion (Study tour)
On 16 June, Sunday, we are having a tour titled “The Frontline of Reconstruction Tour” planned by local NPO Marugoto Rikuzentakata. This will be a great opportunity for you to see and learn about the current situations of the disaster affected places. Please check the details in the website and book your spot !!
